BDA Books is now pleased to offer assistance with book design to authors who wish to independently publish their books and to businesses looking to produce manuals and the like in book format.

Book design work will include:

Formatting/Layout of book interior: Formatting of the print–ready file (for use with a digital printing, or print–on–demand, company) will be performed in InDesign CS3. This includes forematter pages (half–title, imprint (copyright), title page with logo, dedication, acknowledgments, table of contents, sections, chapters, headers and page numbering, “About the Author” and/or “Other Books By” page. Upper case for first line formatting style or drop caps, clip art or small photo on full title page if desired.

Fonts: You can advise me of your font preferences, or I can choose one that is widely used in the book industry and reader friendly for both PDF and print.

Types of Files You Receive: Depending on the level of service you require, I can provide InDesign CS3 files, print–ready PDF to printer’s specifications, a bookmarked PDF for use as an ebook and Word files for use as an ebook.

Editing: I will correct up to 20 typographical, grammatical or spelling errors. Thorough proofreading and/or editing services can be requested for a separate and/or additional fee.

Book Cover: I can also assist with the design and format of a cover for your book. This can include either preparation of correctly sized jpeg files for front and back covers or a single, wrap–around cover design as well as insertion of a book description, reviews, your logo, your website, your address, your picture and a catchy heading for your back cover.

Logo: If you do not have a logo and would like one included, I will design a basic one for you and include it on the back cover and title page.

Uploading to Online Distribution Websites: I can upload your book to the printer of your choice (including Lightning Source, CreateSpace or Lulu.com), where you can get an ISBN and have your book sold at online retail sites like Amazon.com.

Bar code: I can generate a bar code for your book based on your ISBN.

Follow-up: You may also contact me post publication for feedback, direction, recommendations for review sites and for help regarding any other uploading glitches you may encounter.

BDA Books can provide assistance on either simple or complex projects. A simple project would be one where the majority of the interior document is text based and there are minimal images (up to five) that need to be inserted in the interior document. A complex project would be one where the interior document requires insertion of multiple images or tables and graphs, insertion of indices and tables of contents.
